Florence

Monday 15th March 2010:
Woke up this morning to catch a train to Florence for the next 2 nights. The train takes about 4.1hours and is more of a local than express - the express takes only about 1.3hours.
We arrived into Florence at about 3pm and made our way to the hostel to check-in. Once checked-in we headed out into the town for a bit of sightseeing and dinner before heading back to the hostel for the night.

Tuesday 16th March 2010:
Woke up earlyish this morning for the hostel breakfast - which definately wasn't worth the 5euros each that we paid for it.
From there Grace had obtained from a guy on the front desk the best plan of attack on what to see and the best places in the city. So off we trundled to catch a bus up to Piazzale Michelangelo for a great view of the city of Florence.
From there we headed over to the Palazzo Pitti and went into the gardens to look around. On our way over to look at the Fort Grace found out that she'd lost her entrance ticket for the second time that day. So instead of heading back into the gardens we headed down to the rivers edge and over the Ponte Vecchio (a very old bridge which had shops and houses built on the sides of it).
From there we walked pass the Galleria degli Uffizi then into the Santa Croce which charged us 5euro entrance fee and wasn't worth it as the place is under renovation and the museum was closed.
From there we headed over to the Duomo and on pass the San Lorenzo and along the market streets lines with tented street shops, to have a look at the walls of the Fortezza da Basso and then head back to the hostel for a rest until dinner time.
