Morocco Part 2
Sunday 4th October:
Had breakfast as one of the little cafes in the centre square, before heading off with a few of the group to see the tombs and palace (missed the palace but got the tombs). while there we saw some very small baby tortoises and I saw an owl poke its head out of a hole in the wall before disappearing again.
After the tombs we split ways with Wes, Lexi and Steph, and Jen, Sarah and myself went off to wanderer the shops and do a bit of shopping (well the girls shopped I just followed and site saw).
We eventually made our way to the souks and wanderer their maze of avenues and streets. We eventually made our way for lunch, before more wanderering the souks and then had a drink on the rooftop terrace of a restaurant and sat and watched the action below in the market square.
After this we headed back to the accommodation, before I headed out for a hammam (Moroccan steam room followed by a scrub and massage - mine wasn't that great).
For dinner we headed back to the stalls in the market square, and then headed back to the taz for a few drinks again.
Monday 5th October:
Another 7am start for breakfast, which was followed by some people with a few last minute pick-ups/purchases.
From here we were off to the local area for waterfalls in the mountains. We arrived before and prepared lunch before heading out on a hike to the local big falls. Pretty decent in size and beauty (albeit with a bit of rubbish and graffiti around the area). A few people were brave enough and took a dip in and under the waterfall (which was quite cold).
After this we made our way back to the town and sat around until dinner time (more tagine).
Early night in all for most people.
Tuesday 6th October:
Up earlish for the drive back through Marrakech on to Essaouira. We stopped for the obligatory coffee break. We arrived in Essaouira before lunch again.
After lunch was prepared and eaten we wandered into town for a look around the town, before heading back to the campsite for dinner and a night of drinks and chatting and fun.
Wednesday 7th October:
This was classed as a free day for us to do whatever we wanted to do. Some people went on a horse ride in the morning, while a couple of the guys jumped on the quads for a few hours. The rest of us had a quiet morning before heading into the town and wanderering around for a while.
I checked into and internet cafe and checked my email's, before heading out and oddly enough meeting into Wes and the girls - whom I joined for cheese burgers at a local English cafe.
Eventually made my way back to the campsite for a few hours to relax and read and enjoy the sun. Eventually headed back into town for a pizza for dinner and wander around at night time. Made my way back to the campsite for another night of celebrations.
Thusday 8th October:
Up early again for a 7am start and leave.
We had a long drive on towards Moulay Bousalhem (the local Moroccan holiday destination). This involved a very long drive along the highway near the coast, a drive past Casablanca.
Lunch was in a highway rest stop and fastfood joint.
Eventually made out way to the destination after dark and then had to set up the tents and cook the dinner for the night.
Friday 9th October:
Up latish (considering most of the mornings), this was due to the fact we only had a shore distance to travel.
Wanderered up into town for breakfast and a look around, before heading back to pack up and get ready to leave for the last and final nights destination.
As I said it was a very short trip up the coast to our last destination and as such we called into the big bulk purchase store for some more booze for the final night.
We got to Cap Spartel mid afternoon, and set ourselves up for the final nights festivities to happen.
A few people made their way down to the cliffs to have a look at the caves, the rest of us hung around and relaxed.
Dinner was made on and over the camp fire and the night got started as dinner was being cooked and prepared. This involved a long night of drinking, chatting and general merriment to be had, before heading to bed and crashing for the night until the next morning.
Satuday 10th October:
Up eventually, some people earlier than others - some people had to make their way to the airport and seaport for transport options to finish or continue their trips.
The rest of us slowly got going, packed up and said our goodbyes. Myself, Michelle and Bec decided to hang at Cap Spartal until heading ot the airport for our respective flights (it was closer and just as easy to stay than go back to Tangier and then back again to the airport).
We said goodbye and waved off the bus, before heading down to the cliffs to find something to eat (unfortuantely there really wasn't much down there). As such as our options were limited we headed back up the road to the local 5 star Mirage hotel.
Here we sat in the lap of luxury for our last few hours in Morocco and enjoyed a chicken burger and chips, hot choc and oj, all the while overlooking the massive beach just down from the hotel.
Once time came, we left and caught our taxi to the airport.
Bec and I were on the same flight and so said goodbye to Michelle (whose flight was later in the day).
Our flight was very uneventful, and when we made it back to the airport we parted ways to get different trains back home. I cancelled my night's accomodation in London and headed back via NationalExpress coach/bus to Birmingham, to arrive at about 2am and sleep in my own bed and relax and sleepin on the Sunday morning without having to worry about getting up the next day and catching a bus then.
