No internet sucks - and is painful, but all works out in the end
Saturday 1st August:
As you will all know already I had a ticket for the cricket for the 3rd day of the 3rd test. Unfortunately the whole day was rained out and as such I missed out on my day at cricket. The up side being I get most of my money back, however I would have preferred to see the cricket to getting my money back.
As such I never really left the house because of the rain.
Sunday 2nd August:
Church in the morning, then I found myself at the walkabout (Australian bar) to wile the rest of the day away watching the cricket.
Monday 3rd August:
Not much other than work as well as watching the last day of the cricket on the net.
Tuesday 4th August:
More work, and end of month – luckily for me it’s still very much the slowest and least amount I have had to do on a month end since working for the Police Credit Union all those years ago.
Tuesday movie night was seeing a new British film called ‘Moon’. It was quite good, although a little odd, probably a bit more on the artsy side of things that I usually watch, but entertaining non-the-less.
Wednesday 5th August:
More work and work and work. Got home to find the internet not working properly (needless to say this has actually kept going on until Sunday – suppose to be getting fixed on Monday when the bill’s paid as it turns out that, that is the main reason behind the internet being excessively slow, or at least I believe it is will have to wait until Monday to confirm it though).
Thursday 6th August:
More work, then soccer/football in the evening.
Friday 7th August:
Last day of the week at work. Nothing overly interesting, however had a informal meeting with my manager about my plans, and theirs etc. The basic result of this is that they would like me to keep going until I can no longer work anymore, and I’m more than willing to do that (although I will probably still just put my feelers out to see what’s happening in the market).
Friday night was spent doing much all of nothing – due to the internet being down and all, although luckily I had still some downloaded programs I had yet to watch, so I at least had something to do for most of the night.
Saturday 8th August:
Made my way to the walkabout for the day to watch the cricket and Australia hammer home their advantage over England.
I the evening, again due to no internet, I went to the movies to watch ‘The Taking of Phelam 123’. Not a bad movie and worth the money spent on it.
Had a couple of text’s from Mike who had just arrived into Heathrow and was waiting in the customs line – lucky Mike!
Sunday 9th August:
Watched the final 1 and a bit sessions of the 4th test at the Walkabout, with a break at lunch time to go and do my weekly shopping. That was pretty much it for the day with nothing else having happened for the rest of the day.
Monday 10th August:
Work and still no internet! – AAAaaahhhhhh!!!!!
Tuesday 11th August:
Work, no internet still and movie night – went to see the G.I. Joe movie. Not much to it really, pretty ordinary and it’s no wonder most people don’t know and can’t name movies which Sienna Miller has been in, because they are generally shockers. Not because she’s in them, just that G.I. Joe is pretty much non-existent for story line, plot, good acting (and those who do a decent job can’t make up for the lack of credibility this movie eminates).
Wednesday 12th August:
Work, and finally find out that Ben hasn’t paid the internet bill even though he was saying he had. Not sure which bill he’d paid, but definitely not the one for our internet.
Thursday 13th August:
Work and finally some internet for the day although extremely slow, so I was basically unable to do anything much on it. Got to check most of the emails, although that still took a while to do.
Friday 14th August:
Work. Mike arrived tonight at just after 8pm. Met him at the train station then walked home. Went out to the local Wetherspoons for dinner and a few drinks.
Saturday 15th August:
Picked up the car in the morning from Hertz, and decided to drive out to Cambridge for the day. Really nice university town, but not quite as nice as Oxford. We had a good day there with some really nice weather. On the way back we called in the Leicester to see Annabel and pick up a 2-4-1 voucher to Alton Towers for Sunday’s trip. We arrived at Annabel’s just in time for dinner (not planned, just happened that way). Picked up the vouchers and eventually made our way home for the evening of strolling around the city, visiting the Gala Casino (where we both joined up, got a free ₤10 voucher. I played mind on Blackjack and walked away with ₤15 (had to win the initial 10 back before going on) and Mike walked away with about ₤10) So a bit of a profitable night for us both.
Sunday 16th August:
Up early in the morning for a cooked breakfast of bacon, pork sausages and tomato (home cooked), then into the car for the trip to Alton Towers. Lucky for us our car had Satnav in the car (and we didn’t have to hire the system) otherwise we would have gotten very lost. There was a massive line up just to get into the car park and then the park itself as well. We eventually got into the park around 11am, and made our way firstly to the Air ride (longest waiting time 60 mins). Both really enjoyed it with myself laughing through the majority of the ride. We followed this with our next ride on the Nemesis which was even better, and gained more speed than the Air ride.
After which we went for lunch at an all you can eat pizza and pasta joint followed by the nice relaxing ride on the rapid rapids ride.
We then made our way over to the Rita (Queen of Speed) ride, which was extremely quick in speed and in time it took to complete the ride. Called into the Alton Castle (the original inhabitant of the park before being enclosed by the theme/amusement park). We then walk over to the Oblivion (which takes you up and then does a vertical drop of about 30 metres (not 100% sure actually how far) before curving back up and around to the start). Really good fun and muchly enjoyed by the both of us.
We then drove back to Birmingham, I showed Mike the place I use to live, then drove the car back to the airport and dropped it off.
We made our way home where I cooked dinner for us of marinated NZ lamb steaks and enjoyed a night in.
Monday 17th August:
Mike left this morning, and I went to work where I was extremely tired and noticeable so.
Got home to go shopping for the weeks food, and finally I have internet again!!! Wohooo!!!.

Hey Matty,
Just read the blog - had a good time visiting you! I've just got an iPhone which would have helped with the navigation but Mel was probably better :-)
